The next 30 days

31 October 2008

The long awaited day is finally here… Denty and I (plus enk-Bob a.k.a. Mitch) will be flying to New Zealand tonight.

30 days. We will have 30 marvellous days (not with enk-Bob a.k.a. Mitch).

When I come home, I will:

  • write about the 30 days
  • write about the 30 hour flights
  • claim my donut (the chocolate custard one) from MM.

Shhh…

30 October 2008

Be vewy vewy qwuiet… Denty is a wittle bit dewicate today.

I think it has something to do with the ball and chain commiserations drink with his work people last night…

The morning after

29 October 2008

This was my first view of the outside this morning. Everything looked so crisp, beautiful and clean.

My poor winter vegetables were totally covered!

Shivering profusely, I took this photograph  of the thick, thick snow as I was waiting at the bus stop… I really did not want to go to work this morning. I would rather stay at home and make an army of snowmen with Denty and Mitch (aka enk-Bob).

Love is (version 2)…

28 October 2008

Driving in heavy snow, skidding all over the roads to pick Denty up from the station as he was somewhat under dressed for the elements…

Who would have expected a blizzard in October?

Me thinks this beats Denty’s version 1.

Great British grub

28 October 2008

This post is not about the weather. This is about food. I met up with Denty for lunch today. We went to Leadenhall Market in London, which was a four minutes walk from Denty’s office in the bright sunshine.

In the market, there is a little cafe called S & M Cafe- Great British Grub. The cafe serves only quitessentially British food, and the starring on the menu is the impressive list of gourmet sausage and mash. I had the pork and cider sausages with spring onion cheesy mash. Denty had the steak and guiness sausages with the traditional mash.

It was delicious, although maybe not the most condusive food for an afternoon of slogging in the project room.

Oh, the weather? It was hailing when I walked back to my office. Ow ow ow ow ow ow…

The commute

23 October 2008

How do people commute on trains? Some fall asleep straight away and automatically wake up at their stop. Some, like one of my colleagues yesterday, fall asleep and get woken up by the sound of their own snoring. Some read. Some just zone out and stare into space.

I do all of the above, minus the waking up by snoring, depending on my mood of the day.

Yesterday, I was in the zone out mood… until I noticed the man sitting opposite me staring at me. I did the London commuter thing. I flicked my eye on him and quickly averted my eyes. Eye contact on trains is simply not a done thing… as demonstrated by my shoving of Denty not too long ago.

The staring man turned out to be Phil. Phil happens to be a Partner in my department, I have worked on several projects with him and we have spoken many times…

He thought I looked familiar and I thought he looked like Phil but was too young to be Phil as I have never seen Phil under natural light.

Apparently, Phil and I have been taking the same train in the same carriage ever since March this year.

Day of the minestrone

22 October 2008

It was a frosty start to a cold day. I had my usual misty breath-smoke ring fun. My 1.8 mile riverside walk to work was freezing and the project room was not any better.

When it was time for lunch, I went out of the project room to catch some sun and bought myself a lovely bowl of minestrone. I sat by the window where the sun was shinning in. A book in one hand and a spoon in the other…

I feel much warmer already.

Walking on creamed spinach

21 October 2008

Mitch and I had a real craving for big bowls of vegetables. We wanted to have a big bowl each to chomp away happily. So yesterday, we made giant bowls of creamed spinach, with cracked peppercorns and a touch of nutmeg. It was absolutely delicious.

At some point during dinner, I noticed that our living room carpet was of the exact colour as the creamed spinach. Yuck.

Stupid previous house owner.

Note to self- If I stop having my morning coffee, I will be able to save £7.50 per week and that means £337.50 per year. It will only take me a mere 2 year period to be able to afford a new living room carpet…

Meanwhile, I will just keep on walking on creamed spinach.
